Symptoms often appear within 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. Symptoms range in severity from mild to severe and life-threatening in some cases.

COVID-19 often spreads by contact with an infected person or through shared surfaces or personal care items. Avoid close contact with people who show signs of COVID-19 and practice good personal hygiene. Wash your hands often using antibacterial soap or hand sanitizer when needed.

What should I expect during COVID-19 testing?

COVID-19 testing and antibody testing are two main types of COVID tests, but both are simple and fast. Your provider can swab the upper part of your nostril or the back of your throat to detect the presence of the COVID-19 virus.

Your specialist might complete a blood test to check for the presence of antibodies in your bloodstream. If you have antibodies, it could be because you’ve received a COVID-19 vaccination or you’ve been infected with, and recovered from, COVID-19.

Depending on the type of COVID-19 test you receive, you may get your results right away, later on the same day, or after a few days.
